Novol 32102 Thin 850 - Standard Acrylic Thinner (1L)
The Novol Thin 850 is a premium, high-purity universal solvent designed for the automotive refinishing industry. This 1-litre "Standard" speed thinner is the primary diluting agent for the entire Novol Professional range of 2K acrylic products, including primers, fillers, clearcoats, and topcoats.
Unlike budget "Gun Wash" thinners, Thin 850 is free from recycled impurities and moisture, ensuring that your paint system cures with maximum gloss, perfect leveling, and zero chemical interference.
Key Features & Benefits - Optimal Evaporation Rate: Engineered for "Standard" conditions - ideally temperatures between 18°C and 25°C - providing the perfect balance between "flow" and "flash-off."
- Superior Leveling: Reduces the viscosity of 2K products to ensure a smooth, "orange-peel-free" finish that lays down flat on the panel.
- High Purity Formulation: Prevents common paint defects such as "blooming" (cloudiness), "fish-eyes," or loss of gloss during the curing phase.
- Versatile Compatibility: Fully compatible with Novol Protect fillers, Novakryl clearcoats, and acrylic topcoats, as well as most other high-quality 2K acrylic systems.
- Moisture-Free: Specifically treated to ensure it does not introduce water into isocyanate-cured products, which would otherwise cause pinholes or brittle finishes.
Professional Application Strategy
While many 2K products can be sprayed "neat," adding Thin 850 is the secret to a professional, smooth finish.
- Mixing Order: Always mix your Paint + Hardener first in the required ratio (e.g., 2:1 or 5:1). Only after they are combined should you add the Thin 850 to adjust the viscosity.
- Dosage:
- HS Clearcoats: Typically 0% to 5% for a high-build look.
- Acrylic Fillers: Usually 10% to 20% depending on whether you want a "high-fill" or "primer-surfacer" consistency.
- Solid 2K Topcoats: Generally 10% to 15% for optimal gloss.
- The "Slow" Alternative: If you are spraying in a very hot booth (above 28°C) or painting a very large vehicle (like a transit van), you may need to switch to Thin 860 (Slow) to prevent the paint from drying "dusty" before it can level out.
Expert Insight: You can use Thin 850 for a final "wipe-down" of your spray gun components, but never use it as a general surface degreaser for the car panel itself - it evaporates too quickly to lift deep oils. Use Novol Plus 780 Silicone Remover for that job instead.
