Drive Belt Pulleys And Tensioners Available Here. Your vehicle's drive belt is what gives power to your air conditioning and power steering systems, plus the alternator. Attached to both the crankshaft and these systems, the drive belt transfers power from the engine to all of them. The drive belt tensioner maintains pressure in the belt, allowing it to continue moving and transferring power. Most tensioners also have pulleys. If the tensioner or its pulleys fail, the drive belt tension decreases and your vehicle will not operate as well. Whenever you have your drive belt serviced, make sure your tensioner is also inspected. Since the tensioner usually lasts longer than the drive belt, you probably won’t need to replace it until the belt itself needs replacement. However, if you hear squeaky or grinding noises whenever you start the engine, have your drive belt pulleys and tensioner checked by a car care professional.
