Novol 38091 Novakryl 590 – High Solid (HS) Acrylic Clearcoat (1L)
Give your paintwork a deep, glass-like finish with Novol Novakryl 590. This 1-litre unit is a premium High Solid (HS) 2K acrylic clearcoat designed for automotive refinishing where a high-gloss, durable, and UV-resistant topcoat is the priority.
As an "HS" formula, it has a higher resin content and lower solvent content than standard clearcoats. This means you get a thicker protective layer with fewer spray passes, resulting in superior depth and better environmental resistance.
The Perfect Mix: 2:1 Ratio
This clearcoat requires a dedicated hardener to cure into its final hardened state.
- Mixing Ratio: 2:1 (2 parts Clearcoat : 1 part Hardener).
- Required Hardener: Novol H 5550 (Standard), H 5570 (Fast), or H 5590 (Slow).
- Thinner: You can add 0% to 5% Novol THIN 850 for optimal flow, though HS clearcoats are often sprayed with minimal thinning to maintain their high-build "look".
Key Features & Benefits
- High Gloss & Depth: Provides a "wet look" finish that enhances the metallic or pearl effect of the basecoat underneath.
- Excellent Flow: Formulated to "level out" beautifully on the panel, significantly reducing "orange peel" and the need for heavy polishing.
- UV & Weather Shield: Contains high-quality UV absorbers that prevent the underlying color from fading and the clearcoat from yellowing over time.
- Scratch & Chemical Resistance: Once fully cured, it forms a tough barrier against bird droppings, road salt, car wash brushes, and fuel spills.
- Hardness & Polishability: Cures to a very high level of hardness, yet remains easy to color-sand and buff to a mirror finish if imperfections occur.
Professional Application Strategy
To achieve a "show-car" finish with Novakryl 590, your gun setup is critical:
- Preparation: Ensure the basecoat is completely matte and dust-free. Use a tack rag immediately before spraying.
- Gun Setup: Use a 1.3mm to 1.4mm nozzle at 2.0–2.2 bar (approx. 29–32 PSI).
- Application:
- First Coat: Apply a medium "closed" coat.
- Flash-off: Wait 5–10 minutes (the surface should be "stringy" but not dry).
- Second Coat: Apply a full, wet coat to achieve the final gloss.
- Curing: For best results, allow to air dry overnight in a dust-free environment or bake for 30 minutes at 60°C.
Expert Insight: Novakryl 590 is an "HS" product, so don't be tempted to "pile it on" too quickly. Two well-placed coats are much better than three heavy ones, which can lead to solvent entrapment (die-back) or runs.
