Overview

Novol Alu - Putty With Aluminium Powder, 1.8kg

Novol 1165 Alu - Aluminium-Filled Polyester Putty (1.8kg)

Elevate your repair standards with Novol Alu, a specialized polyester putty enriched with aluminium powder. This 1.8kg unit (Product Code: 1165) is engineered for areas subject to high thermal stress or those requiring a filler with physical properties closer to metal than standard putties.

The addition of aluminium flakes provides the putty with superior thermal conductivity and reduced shrinkage, making it the premier choice for engine-adjacent panels, bonnets, and large structural repairs where durability is non-negotiable.

Key Features & Benefits

High Thermal Resistance: Excellent at dissipating heat, preventing the filler from cracking or losing adhesion on panels that get hot (e.g., near engines or in direct sun).
Reduced Shrinkage: The aluminium content provides a more stable structure during curing, ensuring your repair stays level and flush over time.
Metal-Like Hardness: Offers a tougher finished surface than standard soft putties, providing better resistance to mechanical impact.
Excellent Adhesion: Bonds exceptionally well to steel, aluminium, and galvanized surfaces, as well as glass-fiber reinforced plastics (GRP).
Smooth Application: Despite the metal content, it maintains a creamy consistency that is easy to spread and shape.

Professional Repair Strategy

Novol Alu is often used as an alternative to "lead loading" for classic car restoration and high-end bodywork. Its ability to expand and contract at a rate similar to the metal substrate makes it far more reliable on large horizontal surfaces like roofs and bonnets.

Application Steps:

Preparation: Clean and degrease. Sand the metal with P80–P120 grit to ensure a strong mechanical bond.
Mixing: Mix the metallic paste and hardener thoroughly until the colour is a uniform, streak-free grey.
Apply: Use a spreader to apply in layers. It can be built up to significant thicknesses without the risk of "sinkage."
Sanding: Start with P80–P120 for rough shaping and finish with P180–P240.

Pro Tip: Because of the aluminium powder, this putty is slightly harder than standard fillers. For a perfect, paint-ready surface, many pros apply a final "skim coat" of Novol Finish to fill any tiny air bubbles or sanding marks before priming.
