NGK Glow Plugs

NGK Glow Plugs
A Glow Plug is a heating device used to aid the starting of diesel engines. In cold weather, high speed diesel engines can be difficult to start because the mass of the cylinder block and cylinder head absorb the heat of compression, preventing ignition. Choosing high quality plugs is essential. NGK Glow Plugs (U.S.A.), Inc. is the largest OE supplier and manufacturer of glow plugs, oxygen sensors and A/F sensors for domestic and import vehicles in North America. With over 80 years of automotive expertise, NGK’s family of automotive products are driven by extreme dedication to innovation, performance, and quality. For decades, NGK application engineers in Wixom, Michigan and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin have collaborated with auto manufacturers to provide technologies fit for the vehicles of the future. NGK Spark Plugs (U.S.A.), Inc is committed to be the premier partner to customers, while maintaining strong standards for durability and operational performance in every product.

Buying & Fitting Guide

Buying & Fitting Guide
To ensure that you get the correct glow plug, it is best to check the size and shape of the one currently installed so you can compare with the listed plugs. Some important information for selecting the correct glow plug is the type of needed (metal/ ceramic), fitting depth, length and thread size, voltage (V), resistance (Ohm), overall current (A), port type, climate condition, transmission type and date limitation of the unit. As car manufacturers regularly update certain peripherals and design of their models, some glow plugs will only be suitable for particular models of certain years.

Helpful Tips

Helpful Tips
Glow plugs don’t require replacement very often, they can go years and many miles before replacement is a must. However, most manufacturers would suggest having a replacement installed every 40,000km while type and condition of the glow plug is a key factor. Some key characteristics that indicate a glow plug change are; difficulty with starting your vehicle especially in cold weather, irregular excessive smoke emitted from the exhaust system and inferior overall performance. Mis-firing glow plugs can also have an adverse effect on fuel economy too, that’s why we recommend having your plugs inspected at minimum 20,000km.
