As one end of the system bolts to the engine and the other end secured to the vehicle frame or subframe, the engine mounts have another equally important function along with holding the engine in place; they isolate the surrounding steel from all the vibration and shaking as the engine makes power. Most engine mounts accomplish this with just two metal parts bonded together with a rubber insulator in between. The rubber holds the two metal mounting points together and allows for a small amount of movement while absorbing engine vibration and preventing it from reaching the rest of the vehicle. Not replacing an engine mount that is past its prime can inflict damage to the engine, cause discomfort for operators and potentially be a safety risk. Some tell-tail signs are; Increased vibrations, a bumpier ride while driving, impact noises (clunks and knocks) and general visual wear. Engine mounts do not have a scheduled replacement but should last between 5 to 10 years before dry rot or breaking from age-related failure
