Since most vehicles with drum brakes have them on the rear wheels only, the brake lining material wears at a slower rate than the linings on the front brakes. They will eventually wear out and it's important to periodically check them so they can be replaced before expensive damage is done. We recommend having your brake shoes inspected every 15,000 miles. There usually is a build up of toxic friction media that collects inside the drum over time which can cause serious harm, we advise to wear suitable eye protection and a Respirator when carrying out any work on drum brake components.
