Overview

A vehicle is only as good as the components that it uses. With Apec, those components are built to OE specifications to guarantee the performance customers and installers expect with a unique aftermarket twist.

Brake master cylinders are a vital component of your car’s braking system. This device is responsible for taking the pressure generated by pressing the brake pedal and turning it into hydraulic pressure to activate your brakes. The design and quality of the master cylinder can have a great effect on the overall performance of your car’s brakes, so it is important that you choose one specially designed for your vehicle. Always check for leaks or any other signs of wear and tear, as these can lead to reduced braking power and performance.

Designed to replicate the exact feel and performance of OE parts, Apec Master Cylinders adhere to the same exemplary standards of production and quality control as the rest of the hydraulic range. Composed of high-grade steel or aluminium, and EPDM seals and boots, master cylinders are reinforced with engineering and assembly practices that ensure form, fit and function are always at the heart of production. As with other Apec Hydraulics, master cylinders pass intensive factory testing for performance under pressure before release.

Buying & Fitting Guide

Buying & Fitting Guide
The brake master cylinder is one of the most important components found on modern car braking systems. It serves as the main valve that pushes brake fluid through the brake lines so that the brake calipers can squeeze the pads against the brake discs. It functions by pushing a metal rod through a cylinder to force fluid through the braking system to the wheels. One end of this rod is attached to the pedal and is actuated when the pedal is depressed. Some important information for selecting the correct brake master cylinder is the type of cylinder needed; braking system type (with or without ABS), shape and size, and date limitation of the unit. As car manufacturers regularly update certain peripherals and design of their models, some master cylinders will only be suitable for particular models of certain years.

Helpful Tips

Helpful Tips
Usually a faulty brake master cylinder will produce a few symptoms that alert the driver that service may be required; abnormal brake pedal behaviour, contaminated brake fluid and the usual check engine light. The most common symptom to first notice is abnormal brake pedal behaviour. As the master cylinder is the component that generates all of the pressure for the braking system, if it develops any sort of problems sealing or distributing pressure, this may be felt in the pedal. Over time, with constant use, the seals inside the cylinder can wear out and form internal leaks. A bad brake master cylinder may result in a pedal that feels mushy, spongy or that slowly sinks to the floor when depressed. If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure to have the issue inspected by a mechanic immediately.
