How often should wipers be changed?

Wipers blades will most commonly be changed once every 6 to 12 months. You should inspect your wiper blades every six months for wear and tear. The rubber component in a wiper blade deteriorates over time and can accelerate from increased exposure to road debris, chemicals, climate and ozone exposure. Deteriorating wiper blades can be identified by excessive noise, streaking and chattering. If the rubber has started to tear apart from the blade it should be replaced immediately.

Is it sufficient to only replace the driver's side wiper?

It is recommended to replace the driver’s side and passenger’s side wipers at the same time for improved vision and increased safety. Don't forget to replace the rear window wipers as well!

How hard is it to change my wiper blades?

It's extremely easy to change your wiper blades - in fact it’s one of the simplest motoring DIY jobs you can tackle yourself. For most vehicles, wipers can be changed in a matter of minutes with many wiper blades allowing for an easy one-step installation. Some wiper systems require the use of adapters and this is a little more complex however the process is still very straightforward and can be completed properly by following the instructions.

Do I need to clean my windscreen before installing new wipers?

Dirty windscreens are a common cause for poor wiper performance even if the wipers are still in good shape. Some kinds of contamination, such as tree sap, can destroy the wiping element quite quickly. Clean your windscreen regularly with a good quality car shampoo or glass cleaner to remove tar and film build up.

How long do new wipers last?

A new set of wiper blades will normally last approximately 6 to 12 months in average weather conditions and with average use. Wiper blades are exposed to the weather and to debris in the environment and will degrade faster during harsher conditions and very frequent use.
