Novol 90397 Underbody Bitumen – Heavy Duty Chassis Protection (500ml)
Shield your vehicle’s most vulnerable areas with Novol Underbody Bitumen. This 500ml aerosol is a professional-grade, one-component (1K) protective coating based on high-quality bitumen and synthetic resins. It is specifically engineered to provide a thick, durable, and permanently elastic barrier against the "big three" of underbody damage: mechanical impact, road salt, and moisture.
Unlike standard paints, this bitumen-based formula creates a "self-healing" waxy film that remains flexible even in freezing temperatures, ensuring the chassis stays protected as the metal vibrates and flexes during driving.
Key Features & Benefits
- Superior Corrosion Barrier: Effectively seals the metal surface, preventing the "rust-creep" that occurs when water and road salt sit in the crevices of the chassis.
- Impact & Stone Chip Protection: The thick, rubberized consistency absorbs the energy from flying stones and debris, preventing them from chipping away at the factory paint or primer.
- Sound Deadening Properties: Significantly reduces road noise and "drumming" in large floor panels by dampening vibrations through the thick bitumen layer.
- Fast Drying: Despite its high viscosity, it reaches a "dust-free" state in roughly 30 minutes, allowing for quicker vehicle turnaround.
- Excellent Adhesion: Bonds powerfully to bare steel, primed surfaces, and existing PVC or bitumen-based factory coatings.
- Aerosol Convenience: The 500ml spray can is perfect for "touch-up" repairs after welding, or for reaching tight areas like wheel arches and chassis rails without needing a compressor or Schutz gun.
Professional Application Strategy
Bitumen is a "dirty" job; preparation ensures the coating doesn't just "trap" rust underneath.
- Preparation: Remove all loose rust, mud, and grease. Use a wire brush for heavy scale. Clean thoroughly with Novol Plus 780 Silicone Remover.
- Priming (Optional but Recommended): For the absolute best longevity on older vehicles, apply a coat of Novol Protect 360 Epoxy Primer to the bare metal before spraying the bitumen.
- Agitation: Shake the can vigorously for 3 minutes. Bitumen is very dense and requires thorough mixing to ensure it sprays evenly through the nozzle.
- The Spray: Hold the can 20–25 cm from the surface. Apply 2 to 3 layers, allowing 10 minutes of flash-off time between coats. Do not spray near the exhaust system, brake discs, or moving engine parts.
- Post-Spray: After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 2 seconds to clear the nozzle. This prevents the thick bitumen from hardening and clogging the spray tip.
Expert Insight: Important: Bitumen coatings like 90397 are not paintable. Because of the high wax/oil content in bitumen, standard automotive paints will not stick to it and will eventually peel or react. If you need a protective coating that must be painted to match the car's color, use Novol Gravit 600 Antigravel instead.
