Rain-X Windscreen Repair Kit: Stop Chips & Cracks from Spreading
Save time and money by repairing your windscreen yourself with the Rain-X Windscreen Repair Kit. This professional-grade solution is designed to minimize the appearance of stone chips and cracks while preventing them from spreading further. By treating damage early, you can avoid the high cost of a full windscreen replacement.
The kit uses an advanced resin formula that fills the break, removes trapped air, and bonds the glass structure. The result is a windscreen that is stronger than before with a repair that is almost invisible to the naked eye.
How it Works
The Rain-X repair system uses a specific mechanical process to restore the glass:
- Air Removal: The included apparatus displaces the air trapped inside the break, which is often what causes the damage to be visible.
- Resin Injection: Durable, clear resin is forced into the void. This resin cures to match the refractive index of the glass.
- Structural Reinforcement: Once cured, the resin strengthens the windscreen, stopping the stress crack from growing across the glass.
Key Benefits
- Prevents Spreading: Stops small chips and cracks from expanding into larger, unrepairable damage.
- Versatile Repair: Effective on chips/bullseyes up to 2.5 cm in diameter and cracks up to 30 cm long.
- Quick Application: The entire process takes just minutes (approx. 15 minutes) to apply.
- Cost-Effective: A simple DIY solution that saves on insurance excess or garage fees.
- Multiple Repairs: The kit contains enough resin for multiple repairs on a single windscreen.
Directions for Use
For best results, perform the repair as soon as possible after damage occurs and before the break is contaminated by dirt or water.
For Chips, Bullseyes, or Stars:
- Prep: Clean the area with a dry towel. Center the provided ring apparatus over the impact point.
- Setup: Screw the resin chamber into the center ring until it touches the impact point.
- Fill: Squeeze resin into the chamber.
- Inject: Screw the pressure driver into the resin chamber to force the resin into the break.
- Remove Air: Unscrew and remove the pressure driver to let air escape, then re-insert the pressure driver to push the final resin in.
- Cure: Remove the apparatus. Apply a drop of resin for touch-up and cover with the curing strips. Move the windscreen into direct sunlight. Wait for the resin to harden, then scrape off the excess.
For Long Cracks (Up to 30 cm):
- Apply: Apply resin to the crack directly from the nozzle on the bottle.
- Cover: Apply curing strips over the wet resin.
- Cure: Move the windscreen into direct sunlight. Wait for the resin to harden, then scrape off any excess resin.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What types of glass can I repair with this kit?
This kit is designed specifically for laminated windscreens. It works on damage that has not penetrated more than one layer of glass. It is not suitable for tempered glass (side or rear windows).
How large can the damage be?
The Rain-X Windscreen Repair Kit is effective on round damage (like bullseyes) not more than 2.5 cm in diameter, and on cracks not longer than 30 cm.
Will the repair be completely invisible?
The product is designed to minimize the appearance of the damage and make it almost invisible. However, depending on the severity and age of the chip, a faint outline may still be detectable.
Does the kit work in the shade?
The resin requires UV light to cure (harden). You can perform the repair in the shade, but for the final curing step, you must move the vehicle into direct sunlight.
