Buying & Fitting Guide

Buying & Fitting Guide
Boot struts are an essential component for luggage compartments. They are necessary to fix the luggage compartment lid in the ‘up’ position to allow access without the need to manually hold the lid up. Some important information for selecting the correct boot struts for your vehicle is the length, ejecting force(N), vehicle type (hatchback, saloon, coupe), fitment position, piston diameter and date limitation of the unit. As car manufacturers regularly update the shape of their models; some boot struts will only fit particular models of certain years.

Helpful Tips

Helpful Tips
Trunk lid gas struts often fail due to too aggressive operating conditions of the vehicle. In particular, low temperature of the environment contributes to reducing the pressure inside the cylinder. As a result, the efficiency of the component may be greatly reduced. Some tell-tale signs that your struts may be in need of replacement are; traces of oil on the surface of the strut, deformation of its cylinder or the rod and loosened fasteners. When replacing boot struts, it is necessary to bleed the new struts and to always install in pairs to avoid inconsistency in performance. Another tip when removing old struts and replacing new ones is to use a set of vice grips to secure the strut in the extended position to avoid the boot lid from falling to an abrupt close.
