Mode 2 (AC single-phase supply)

These 32A cables are backward compatible with 16A supplies, so you can use them with any AC Type 2 EV Charger.
Mode 2 explained
- Offers EV charging from a standard domestic 3-pin UK socket
- Mode 2 cables are slower at charging electric vehicles and do not offer the same safety or Smart capabilities as Mode 3 chargers
- Ideal as a backup charger when visiting friends and relatives, and if you don’t have a Mode 3 charger at home
- Often referred to as Granny Chargers/Cables
- 13A plug-to-Type 2 connection into an electric vehicle
- Sync Energy advise to ideally connect via a 13A socket designed and marked ‘Suitable for EV charging’
Cable care and charging safety
- The cable, control box and Type 2 connector should be kept out of puddles (these have IP65 rating when connected to the car), and the 13A 3-pin plug should never be used outside other than within an IP rated weatheproof socket enclosure.
- Please remember to use the rubber dust cap to keep debris from collecting in the Type 2 connector when not in use.
- Any portable charger used for regular charging should be connected via a dedicated circuit including a socket designed and marked "Suitable for EV charging"
- Moisture is the most common issue experienced and will lead to corrosion of the pins which are not covered by our warranty.
What are the risks of charging in the rain?
Care should be taken to not allow water to enter the car charging socket or charging cable plug. Water can get in to the plug and charging socket during the insertion and removal of the plug from the car. As soon as the charge port is opened, or unplugging your car from a charger, rain can get on to the pins and stay there until the next time you charge.
