Achieve a seamless, "invisible" repair with Novol Thin 890, a professional-grade fade-out (blending) thinner. This 500ml aerosol is a specialized solvent designed to melt the edges of fresh 2K clearcoats or topcoats into the existing original paintwork.
It is an essential tool for spot repairs and "smart" repairs, eliminating the sharp visible lines (halos) that often occur when you don't paint an entire panel from edge to edge.
Key Features & Benefits
- Seamless Blending: Dissolves the overspray at the edge of the repair, allowing the new lacquer to flow smoothly into the old finish.
- High Transparency: Formulated to ensure no cloudiness or yellowing occurs in the transition zone.
- Fast Evaporation: Optimized for quick "melting" action without causing the paint to run or sag on vertical surfaces.
- Gloss Retention: Helps maintain a consistent level of shine across the blended area, making the repair virtually undetectable.
- Ease of Polishing: Softens the transition zone, making it much easier to buff and polish the repair to a mirror finish once fully cured.
- Ready-to-Use Aerosol: Provides a fine, controlled mist that is much easier to manage than mixing bulk blending thinners for small spot repairs.
Professional Blending Strategy
Success with Thin 890 depends on timing and a light touch. It must be applied while the fresh paint is still "open" (wet/tacky).
Application Steps:
- Preparation: Sand the blend area (the old paint surrounding your repair) with a very fine abrasive like P2000–P3000 or a grey scuff pad. Clean and degrease.
- Paint Application: Apply your clearcoat or topcoat, extending slightly past the repair zone but staying within the sanded area.
- The Fade-Out: Immediately after the final coat of paint, spray a very light mist of Thin 890 only over the "dry" overspray at the very edge of the new paint.
- Technique: Use 1 to 2 quick passes from a distance of 25–30 cm. Do not "flood" the area, or the paint may run.
- Curing: Allow the panel to dry completely (ideally 24 hours) before attempting to polish the transition area.
Expert Insight: Fade-out thinner is a potent solvent - it literally melts the paint. Less is more. If you apply too much, you risk "burning" the edge, which creates a permanent greyish ring that cannot be polished out. Aim for a light "dusting" that makes the dry overspray look wet again.
