Novol 1171 Bumper Fix – Flexible Putty for Plastics (500g)
Repair scuffs, scratches, and gouges on plastic components with Novol Bumper Fix. This 500g unit is a specialized 2K polyester putty formulated with a high concentration of flexible resins. Unlike standard body fillers, which are rigid and prone to cracking on plastic, Bumper Fix is designed to move and flex with the substrate.
It is the industry-standard choice for restoring plastic bumpers, mirror housings, and interior trim to their original contours.
The Flexible Formula
This is a two-component (2K) system that maintains its integrity even under the thermal expansion and vibration common in automotive plastics.
- Included Hardener: Supplied with a dedicated tube of benzoyl peroxide paste.
- Mixing Ratio: 100 parts Putty : 2-3 parts Hardener (by weight).
- Colour: Dark Grey (specifically chosen to blend with the natural color of unpainted plastic bumpers).
Key Features & Benefits
- High Elasticity: Engineered to bend without delaminating, making it safe for use on flexible Polypropylene (PP), EPDM, and ABS plastics.
- Exceptional Adhesion: Bonds powerfully to most automotive plastics (except PE - Polyethylene).
- Fine Finishing: The smooth, creamy consistency allows for feather-edging, ensuring the repair disappears into the original part.
- Easy Sanding: Cures to a finish that is easy to abrade with fine-grit sandpaper, reducing the risk of "scuffing" the surrounding undamaged plastic.
- Minimal Shrinkage: High-quality resins ensure the repair stays flush, preventing "sink marks" after the paint is applied.
Professional Application Strategy
Plastic repair is 90% preparation. To ensure the putty never peels off, follow these steps:
- Deep Clean: Clean the area with warm soapy water, then degrease thoroughly with Novol Plus 780 Silicone Remover.
- Heat Treatment (Pro Tip): Briefly warm the plastic with a heat gun to release internal molding oils, then degrease one more time.
- Mechanical Key: Sand the damage and the surrounding 2cm area with P120–P180.
- Adhesion Bridge: Apply a thin layer of Novol Plus 700 Adhesion Promoter and wait 10 minutes before applying the putty. This significantly improves the chemical bond.
- Mixing & Spreading: Mix the putty and hardener until no red streaks remain. Apply in thin layers, pressing firmly to remove air bubbles.
- Finishing: Sand the cured putty with P240, finishing with P320 before priming.
Expert Insight: Bumper Fix is dark grey for a reason. If you are repairing a textured black plastic bumper and don't plan on painting the whole thing, you can often sand Bumper Fix to a very fine finish (P400) and it will blend into the raw plastic much better than a bright yellow or beige putty.
