Tecneco Air Filters

Tecneco Air Filters
Air is a key component for the operation of internal combustion engines and it must always be clean and completely free of any pollutants such as dust, ash or other unwanted particles. The task of the air filter is to block every pollutant that, entering the combustion chamber, would cause damage and premature wear of the engine. TECNECO air filters provide high filtration efficiency, greater and constant protection of the engine and a fuel-air mix necessary to improve performance and reduce power consumption.

Buying & Fitting Guide

Buying & Fitting Guide
To ensure that you get the correct air filter, it is best to check the size and shape of the one currently installed so you can compare with the listed air filters. Some important information for selecting the correct filter is height, length, shape, width and date limitation of the unit. As car manufacturers regularly update the shape of their models; some air filters will only fit particular models of certain years.

Helpful Tips

Helpful Tips
When checking an air filter, it's important to remember that if the filter is working properly, it will have some dirt on it. The trick is to know when it is dirty enough to be replaced. The best way to do this is by holding it up to a light, if the light can pass through the filter then it is likely that air can pass through it. Some other key indicators are black smoke from the exhaust, rough engine noise and poor fuel economy. We recommend that you check the air filter whenever an oil change or service is being carried out. For more information, see our guide on how to check your air filter.

When to change air filters?

On average, you should change your air filter every 12,000 - 15,000 km or once a year. Changing an air filter is a typical task that should be performed at a regular service interval. If you're driving mostly on city streets or dusty roads, it's a good idea to change the air filter in your car more often.

What are the signs of a bad air filter?

One of the most noticable signs is a decrease in fuel economy. When the air filter is dirty, it’s harder to get the air in, and the engine has to utilise more resources and work harder. A lack of clear air flow can also cause ignition problems and can affect the emission control system of the car. Is your acceleration jumpy, or less powerful? Hearing a spluttering sound when the car is idle? When you visually inspect the air filter, keep in mind that sometimes an air filter can get clogged with a build up of particles that are too small to see. However, if you notice that the filter is gray or full of particles, it’s certainly a sign that it's worn and needs replacing.

Why is a clean air filter so important?

Clean air is vital to the efficient operation of your vehicle’s engine. Air filters block out harmful dirt and other debris from entering the combustion chambers, yet allow enough clear air to pass through for a proper balance of air and fuel. Fuel economy is positive or negatively impacted by the condition of your filter. By not changing your air filter for a longer period of time, you allow a build-up of abrasive elements on engine components such as the bearings, cylinders and piston rings - this causes serious (and expensive) wear and tear.

What does the air filter do?

Air is required to run a diesel / petrol engine. Without air, these fuels can not burn sufficiently, which deprives the engine of the force needed to power it. The air filter cleanses the air - preventing harmful dust and debris from flowing into the combustion chambers
