We are now into our third week of Stars and their car. Last week we had Hector Ó hEochagáin answer our car questions. Thanks for those that liked and shared the post on social media. Now, this week we have Cork camogie star Anna Geary in the hot seat. If you haven’t seen our first two posts here is a little bit of background info on the series. This series will feature some of Ireland biggest sporting personalities alongside tv and radio presenters alike. This fun motoring related Q&A will give you the audience a great insight into some of the sporting stars you watch week in week out, not forgetting the presenting you watch and listen to on a daily basis. The goal of the series is to donate as much money as possible to our partner charity that is Bumbleance. For those of you who have never heard of bumbleance, it is Irelands only private ambulance service dedicated to helping sick children. It's a brilliant cause that we love helping out. Each post we are putting up in the series will have a donation attached to it on behalf of the participants for the charity. We’d just like to thank all those who have taken part, taking the time out of their busy schedules to help a great cause.
We are also donating a percentage of the profits from our great value range of creative kids headphones. For every pair, we sell we will be donating a percentage of the profits, so this is a great opportunity to do your bit for charity while picking up a bargain stocking stuffer in the process.
Anna Geary
Anna Geary is known to many as the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship captain of 2014. Not only has she captained the side to winning an all Ireland, but she has also won 3 other titles in her 12 year career for Cork. Along with her 4 titles she has also received 6 all-star awards, making her one of the most decorated players in her discipline. Since calling an end to her sporting career Anna has taken to television. Many of you will recognise her from Irelands Fittest families or dancing with the star. Since retiring from camogie, the multitalented cork native has transitioned into television. From presenting on the seven o’clock show on tv3 to being a pitchside presenter for Eir sport, Anna has had several impressive television positions in her short time on screen.
1. What was your first car?
A wine Fiat Punto
2. Who taught you how to drive?
My Dad likes to think he did, but I was secretly getting lessons too. Though he was the first person to get me behind a wheel. I was a late starter. Took until my early 20’s to learn how to drive.
3. Did you pass your driving test first time around? (and if not, how many attempts!)
Yes with flying colours!
4. What car do you drive now?
I am lucky enough to be a brand ambassador for Johnson and Perrott Motors Douglas and drive a Kia Sportage. My last car was a Kia Proceed and J&P Motors used to service it, so it was a “no brainer” when I was approached about working together.
5. What do you like about the car?
I drive a lot in my job so I need comfort and I love the smoothness of the drive. Also, it has heated seats, I mean, COME ON! In the winter months when I’m on the road at the crack of dawn my bum will be thankful! Also, it has a lot of boot space, I don’t travel light!
6. Who is the worst driver you know and why?
Hmmmmm interesting.... a few contenders... Riordan gets the nod! She doesn’t believe that the roundabouts painted onto the road are actually real! Lol!
7. What do you sing along to when driving?
Everything! I mix and match anything from No Diggity to Proud Mary. If it’s a long journey, I love a bit of 90’s Pop. Spice Girls, Five, Backstreet Boys…
8. What are your rules when it comes to passengers eating or drinking in your car?
No crumbs...and you must share!!
9. How often do you clean your car?
I’m a bit of a clean freak and I’m on the road so often, so I get my car valeted every few weeks. My Dad would go mad if he saw I paid someone to clean my car. #notions
10. What was the best road trip you’ve ever done?
So many to choose from, going on a long road trip to matches when I was younger. The sing songs, the truth or dare games, the banter ... the memories!
11. Pick 3 people to do carpool karaoke with
This is tough. I’m going to say James Corden (cos he’s a pro at this stage) Graham Norton for the absolute craic and Jamie Redknapp, because he can sit up front with me!!!!!!!
12. What is your dream car?
Something with a lot of space. In the summer months especially my car is like a walk in wardrobe, going from place to place. However, if I wanted a “weekend car” I’d go for the ‘Aston Martin DB11 Volante’. What’s not to love!!! (I didn’t google it I swear! Lol)
