I'm a huge fan of the McLaren P1. It is, in my opinion the most fabulous looking supercar ever made, and really that and the noise a supercar makes is what it comes down to for most of us because let's face it we're never going to own one or even get a spin in one! Best looking supercar ever is a bold statement I know, especially considering the company it keeps, both past and present. Can it stack up against the Countach, the F40, the Zonda, the Aventador, the Veyron or even the Miura? I think so, yes. With the exception of the Miura and maybe the Veyron all the others are a bit shouty, angular and generally ott. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The Veyron doesn't fall into any of those categories but lets face it, you could hardly call it beautiful...and it sounds a bit like a turbocharged tug boat.
The Miura is the car i'd compare it to if any. It's small, beautifully proportioned, has curves in all the right places, is relatively unassuming (compared to the competition) but yet has completely savage performance. The downside? does it sound as good as an Aventador? no, but in the new turbocharged era of low emissions and attempts at economy i'm not sure anything does. or will again.
Anyway, my ramblings are just a precursor to the whole point of this post. The video below follows Jay Leno on a trip to McLaren HQ where he has been invited to drive the P1 on track - needless to say he's ordered one. in yellow.
