According to Irish Road Traffic legislation, you must return to the left hand lane after overtaking a slower-moving vehicle and remain in the left hand lane if the road ahead is clear.<\/div>\n<p>  <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h4>What\u2019s wrong with middle lane hogging?<\/h4>\n<div>\u00a0It not only causes road rage and undertaking (overtaking to the left of the car) which is extremely dangerous but it can lead to congestion. As the inside or left hand lane is not being used properly the remaining traffic is limited to the middle and outside lanes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Statistics from a survey on over 2,000 motorists in the UK:<\/div>\n<p>  <\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>6 out of 10 motorists admitted to middle lane hogging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>43% of the hoggers drove in the middle lane as it was an \u201ceasier way to drive\u201d and \u201csaves me changing lanes\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A quarter of the hoggers said they do it because \u201cit is a safer way to drive on the motorway\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>38% of hoggers said they only do it when the road is quiet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>18% said it was a driving habit.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Statistics Source: http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p>  \u2018Hogging\u2019 a lane in Ireland could get you \u20ac60 fine and a penalty point, is that enough?
