{"id":483,"date":"2015-11-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2026-04-29T10:01:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T09:01:59","slug":"rip-carroll-shelby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micksgarageblog.org\/rip-carroll-shelby\/","title":{"rendered":"RIP Carroll Shelby"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carroll_Shelby\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Carroll Shelby<\/a>, the man who gave the world the fabled <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AC_Cobra\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">AC Cobra<\/a> (my childhood dream car), has sadly died at the age of 89.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-60gzr1DxYqY\/T_qsczkfQrI\/AAAAAAAABI0\/Fi5lOnLsBuo\/s1600\/carroll-shelby-01.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"213\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-60gzr1DxYqY\/T_qsczkfQrI\/AAAAAAAABI0\/Fi5lOnLsBuo\/s320\/carroll-shelby-01.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">I met him,&nbsp;briefly, a few years ago at the Goodwood Revival festival and i&#8217;m not sure I really appreciated it at the time but in the words of Ron Burgundy: &#8220;This guy was kind of a big deal y&#8217;know!!&#8221; Thinking back to that moment, he had a great presence about him, he was a real larger than life American. Clad completely in denim with his trademark shades and cowboy hat to set off the look. He was sitting in a deckchair, taking it easy beside one of his ferocious Daytona Coupe&#8217;s chatting away with the mechanics<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-S6zJXGg0E44\/T_qsdsRPVpI\/AAAAAAAABI4\/_1Bpx7ZH38s\/s1600\/carroll-shelby-02.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"211\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-S6zJXGg0E44\/T_qsdsRPVpI\/AAAAAAAABI4\/_1Bpx7ZH38s\/s320\/carroll-shelby-02.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">Edsel Ford II, a Ford board member and great grandson of founder Henry Ford, said: &#8220;Today, we have lost a legend in Ford Motor Company&#8217;s history, and my family and I have lost a dear friend.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">&#8220;Whether helping Ford dominate the 1960s racing scene or building some of the most famous Mustangs, his enthusiasm and passion for great automobiles over six decades has truly inspired everyone who worked with him. He was a great innovator whose legend at Ford never will be forgotten.
