We've probably all done it: you're approaching a set of traffic lights and it turns amber but you think to yourself 'I'll make it through this easily' It then turns red but it's too late to slow now and you carry through the junction and break the red light!
Not only is this illegal but as we can see from the video below, it's highly dangerous, with pretty shocking consequences for both yourself and drivers who are approaching from other adjoining roads.
In Ireland, drivers can be fined up to €120, with a further 4 penalty points also a possibility if you contest the fine. In the UK it's 3 penalty points and a £60 fixed fine, that could go up to as much as £1,000 if you contest it. With
recent reports in the Irish media suggesting even more points being dished
out for the offence in the future, running that red light could become even more costly. Remember to be safe on the roads out there, even if it means an extra 5 minute wait at the lights.
