I grew up in the 80's and to be honest a lot of it was a bit crap. The clothes were crap, the hair do's were crap, TV was grainy and the music, with a few outstanding exceptions, was really crap!
The 80's was however a golden era in motorsport. Group B rallying was at it's peak, the Formula 1 turbo era was in full swing, with cars producing up to 1500 fire spitting bhp.
Group C racing was almost as popular as F1 with iconic cars such as the Rothmans Porsche 962 and the TWR Jaguar XJR6 battling it out at Le Mans
The short video below has some great 80's F1 and Group B slo-mo footage that will have you wandering down memory lane with the rose tinted glasses firmly on.
There was also a plethora of iconic production cars being churned out such as the Peugeot 205 GTi, BMW M3, Mercedes 190 Cosworth, Ford RS200 and Sierra Cosworth, the Audi Quattro, Lancia Delta, Metro 6R4........I could go on!
If you want to see more 80's goodness, the guys over at
Speedhunters.com have a couple of really nice posts on this subject at the moment which are well worth a look and come complete with their usual high standard of imagery
