600 horse power, mid engined, rear wheel drive, are the sort of specifications one would expect from modern super cars. But not ones which are created entirely from wood. This is the Splinter SuperCar, the powerful and stylish motor made entirely from wood (or at least wherever possible).
Apart from a number of components, like the 4.6L twin supercharged V8, it is completely built from scratch. A number of different woods were used and even tools & machines necessary to build it had to made by the team. The exterior features a weave in the body panels which is reminiscent of a sort of brown carbon fibre and even the wheels have wooden details. Joe Harmon, the project leader and head designer actually took a weaving course so that he could create the seats that are in it all by hand - amazing!
Even more impressive is that the car started life as a graduate project in the USA at the North Carolina State University, the designers claim it is a scholastic endeavour to explore materials, teach, learn and stimulate creativity.
