We are now into our 4th instalment of Stars and their car. Last week we had Anna Geary answer our car questions. Thanks for those that liked and shared the post on social media. Now, this week we have Today Fm’s Dave Moore in the hot seat. If you haven’t seen our first few posts here is a little bit of background info on the series. This series will feature some of Ireland biggest sporting personalities alongside tv and radio presenters alike. This fun motoring related Q&A will give you the audience a great insight into some of the sporting stars you watch week in week out, not forgetting the presenting you watch and listen to on a daily basis. The goal of the series is to donate as much money as possible to our partner charity that is BUMBLEance. For those of you who have never heard of BUMBLEance, it is Irelands only private ambulance service dedicated to helping sick children. It's a brilliant cause that we love helping out. Each post we are putting up in the series will have a donation attached to it on behalf of the participants for the charity. We’d just like to thank all those who have taken part, taking the time out of their busy schedules to help a great cause.
We are also donating a percentage of the profits from our great value range of creative kids headphones. For every pair, we sell we will be donating a percentage of the profits, so this is a great opportunity to do your bit for charity while picking up a bargain stocking stuffer in the process.
Dave Moore
Dave Moore? Don’t recognise the face? Well, you more than likely have heard Dave but you might not know what he looks like. Dave is one half of Dermot and Dave on Today Fm’s breakfast show. Dave first worked with 98FM for twelve years before changing over to Today Fm in 2014. His show has grown from strength to strength over the years, making the duo one of the biggest names in Irish radio. Dave is also an avid car fanatic so it was only fitting for us to ask him to participate in our stars in our car series.
1. What was your first car?
A deep blue Fiat Punto
2. Who taught you how to drive?
Gran Turismo. No, my parents did. Mostly, my Mammy, I think
3. Did you pass your driving test first time around? (and if not, how many attempts!)
No. I was rushing off to Russia in 1995 and I wanted it done before then. It didn’t happen but Russian traffic cops didn’t know what “Provisional” meant. I told them it meant I could drive in every “Province” of Europe and gave them $20. Off I went on my merry way. I passed it the second time.
4. What car do you drive now?
A Peugeot 5008 GTLine. It is spectacular. The interior is a dream and 7 seats are vital for me. 4 kids ruined any 2+2 coupe dreams I had
5. What do you like about the car?
The interior is such a nice place to be. The driver is cocooned inside his/her own cockpit and the toys are ridiculous. I think the Lion Logo puddle lights are my favourite feature. Or maybe the directional headlights. Or the three-choice built-in air freshener. No! The customisable dashboard! I dunno. I just love it.
6. Who is the worst driver you know and why?
My 6-year-old, Samuel, while he’s playing Lego City Undercover on the PlayStation. He’s mowing over innocent pedestrians and smashing into Lego Luas trams like there’s no tomorrow, yelling, “I’ll come back and give you my insurance details later!” He never does. Shocking.
7. What do you sing along to when driving?
Metal or Cheesy Pop. Slipknot or Steps. Slayer or S Club. Fightstar or 5ive.
8. What are your rules when it comes to passengers eating or drinking in your car?
I have 4 kids. Anything goes. Yoghurt. Peanut Butter. Marmalade. Banana. I’m thankful I know a good valet dude.
9. How often do you clean your car?
I empty it of rubbish daily. At least twice a month, it gets a full valet. I would wash the outside twice a week. I love a clean car.
10. What was the best road trip you’ve ever done?
Six months ago, I drove the Peugeot 5008 to Westport and hand-built a guitar with a guy called Shane in Custom Built Westport. It was the most exciting drive up and the most satisfied drive back down. And the Peugeot devoured the miles.
11. Pick 3 people to do carpool karaoke with
Corey Taylor from Slipknot, Tom Araya from Slayer and Charlie Simpson from Fightstar but we’re only allowed to sing boyband songs.
12. What is your dream car?
Pagani Zonda. Aston Martin Vulcan. Rimac Concept One. I love them all but, because of the fact I can’t do the school run in any of those, a Tesla Model X would be nice.
