One afternoon late last summer we decided it would be a fantastic idea to organise a soapbox race. Fast forward 3 months and a load of hard work and the inaugural
MicksGarage Soapbox Race was in full swing! The event was supported by
An Post and
Completecar.ie as well as a raft of local businesses, without whom the event wouldn't have been possible.
We'd never organised anything like this before and we made the conscious decision to keep it fairly low key, being perfectly honest we weren't sure if anyone was going to turn up! But thankfully they did. The initial concept was to pick up where the Red Bull Soapbox Race left off, but it was going to take a bit of time to get to that level. Red Bull came to Ireland in 2008, put on a fantastic show in Belfast but haven't been back since, as their model is to move around the globe, to a new country every year. We had an inkling that there was appetite for an annual event so we took the plunge and went for it.
