With a fabulous weekend of Olympic action behind us and Usain Bolt living up to the hype in the blue riband event that was the 100m sprint final, we can now reveal the results of our very own 100m sprint race.
Check out the video below to see which of our 8 competitors were quickest and which had a time closest to the world record of 9.58 seconds.
We offered a €/£50.00 MicksGarage voucher to anyone who predicted the answer correctly.
The results were actually quite surprising:
1st place: Westfield Hayabusa Turbo 5.2seconds2nd place: BMW M3 5.7 seconds3rd place: Ford Fiesta 1.4 16v 7.9 seconds4th place: VW Golf 1.9tdi 105bhp 8.1 seconds 5th place: Audi A5 2.0 tdi Quattro 170bhp 8.9 seconds6th place: Renault Master Van 9.0 seconds7th place: John (running) 12.3 seconds8th place: Chris (cycling) 14.6 seconds
Closest time to Usain Bolt: Renault Master Van 9.0 seconds
The car that caught everyone out was the Ford Fiesta, which was largely disregarded, posting a very respectable time of 7.9 seconds. The 4 wheel drive Audi A5 also caught most people out, with many predicting the traction from the Quattro system would give the Audi the overall advantage.
It seems that power to weight ratio had a large role to play, although if our Fiesta driver is to be believed, driver skill was the deciding factor!
Nobody actually predicted all the answers correctly but
Lucius Wegrzyn was closest with his prediction:
1 - Westfield, 2 - Bmw m3,
3 - Ford Fiesta.
closest to Bolt - Cyclist
Well done Lucius, email rob@micksgarage.ie and we'll get you prize organised!
