Today marks the start of the second most prestigious cycling event in the world, the
Giro d'Italia. The world's greatest cyclists have descended on Ireland for the first three stages of the Giro, the first of which is a 21km time trial through Belfast's Titanic Quarter under lights and the second being a 218km trek to the north Antrim coast, taking in the Giant Causeway before returning again to Belfast city centre. The Giro will then travel across boarders, starting in Co. Armagh before travelling south and ending in Dublin's Merrion Square.

Stage 3 travels across the boarder in the Republic of Ireland, with the finished point at Merrion Square, Dublin
The favourite going into the event is the Columbian
Nairo Quintana, but the 2012 runner-up
Joaquim Rodriguez will also be part of the peloton and expected to be in the shake up on May 22nd when the race ends on May 21st.
