Carol, My First Love

Carol and I had been spending a lot of time together, maybe even too much time. She brought me everywhere and never let me down. If only I realised what I had and didn’t decide to put her on DoneDeal.

Carol was a 1.4 litre Toyota Corolla. In Kerry it’s acceptable to refer to a car as a ‘she’ like "she’s low in diesel” or “she’s leakin oil again”. She was given to me by my sister with a generous family discount. Thanks sis! Unfortunately, the novelty of owning my first car wore off pretty quick and I done what most guys did with their first car, I modified it beyond recognition. Luckily I had a shed, some of my father’s tools and a mate that knew more about this stuff than I did. The modifications went from the usual to the not so usual.
  • New radio with bluetooth, voice control and all the rest and of course a 1200 amp and a 12 inch subwoofer that vibrated the rear passengers spines.
  • Then I bought a CB Radio and the huge wobbly antenna like most people did after they watched Joy Ride.
  • The CB radio didn't have a big enough range so I upgraded to a VHF Radio, this time with a smaller, sleeker antenna.
  • We installed LED’s everywhere they could be fitted from the foot wells to park lights and even the behind the badges (see images below).
  • It got a full alarm kit that made the American style chirp sound as you locked and unlocked the car. I was really cool.
  • The car looked a bit naked so it got a pair of wind deflectors and chrome style pedals.
  • I wasn't a fan of the yellow standard headlights so in came a full HID kit.
I miss Carol. If you've done any crazy car mods like myself upload your photographs and tell us what you did, we'll have a laugh ... and then share them. 2012-02-22 16.58.26  326672_10150520615322234_706143271_o 1336819937412 IMG_1118   IMG_1110 IMG_1119IMG_1121IMG_1120
