It's a classic 1928 Cadillac Sedan, but not the every-day classic car you'd see gracing the vintage car shows up and down the country - this is Al Capone's armoured Cadillac, and it's up for sale!
He's America's best-known gangster, and the single greatest figure to emerge from the prohibition crime era of the 1920's, amassing his millions from the smuggling and bootlegging of illegal alcohol into the 'dry' USA. While he was also involved in many seedy crimes such as bribery and prostitution, he was also a very public figure, seen by many as a modern day 'Robin Hood', giving generous donations on a regular basis to various charitable causes.

As his fame and wealth grew, other rival gang members wanted a piece of the pie. He was known as a ruthless crook however and didn't lie down, enforcing his power and greed among anyone who may have crossed his path. Rivals were disgusted with his level of violence and retaliated on numerous occasions, with his car riddled with bullets more than once! So what do you do if you're being attacked in your own motor? You go and get it armoured!

His 1928 Cadillac V8 Town Sedan was kitted out with the latest gangster gadgets, including inch-thick glass (with embedded circular cut-outs large enough for the muzzles of a machine gun) and 1,360kg of asbestos-wrapped steel with embedded lead armouring - that's heavy duty protection!

As for the engine itself, well it's a 90bhp, 341 cubic inch L-head V-8, equipped with a 3-speed manual transmission...not the fastest in the world, although how could it be with all that extra weight, not to mention a 'larger than life' Capone nestled in the back seat!

It also contains a drop-down rear window so his associates could fire through in the event of a high-speed car chase. It was the ultimate gangster's paradise!!

However if you're thinking of splashing out on this beaut, you're going to need a serious amount of cash, with the expected sale price somewhere between €250,000 & €400,000. You would earn serious kudos though if you were to rock up to your mates house in it. Of course you'd need to complete the look with a tailored suit and white trilby, just like the lads of Boardwalk Empire!
