Loading your roof box. Top
It is very important that you load your roof box carefully, not only in order to
make the best use of the space, but also for your safety and for the safety of others.
- Before you load your roof box, check the maximum weight that can be placed on the
roof of your car. The combined weight of the roof box, the supports and the contents
of the roof box must not exceed the maximum weight.
- When loading the roof box make sure that you spread the weight as evenly as possible.
- Make sure that the contents of the roof box are not likely to slide around while
you are driving. Use the elastic straps supplied (not supplied with the Roady).
- Do not fill the roof box too full. It should be easy to close the lid.
- As far as possible try to place the heaviest luggage in the middle of the roof box
directly above the supports.
- If you are transporting items with sharp edges that stick out, make sure that they
are well covered so that they do not damage the roof box or any other contents.
- If you wish to prevent your luggage from getting damp, it is best to wrap it in
plastic. A roof box is not 100% splashproof in heavy rainfall.
- Try to carry lighter items in your roof box. Place the heaviest things in the boot
of your car. That way you keep the centre of gravity as low as possible, which will
improve the roadholding of your car.
How the roof box affects the roadholding of your car.
Top
A roof box can affect the roadholding of your car. You will need to pay special
attention to the following while driving:
- susceptibility to side winds
- bends
- braking
- low bridges (a roof box (plus supports) will add approximately 60 centimetres to
the height of your car)
Before you set off make sure that everything is securely attached and that the roof
box is properly shut. On longer journeys it is a good idea to stop along the way
to check that the roof box is still securely attached. We also recommend that you
adapt your driving and your speed accordingly.
Tip: Remember to remove the roof box when you are not using it. That way you will
save on fuel.
Storing your roof box. Top
There are different ways of storing your roof box. You can store the roof box in
the attic or in your garage, or you can suspend it from the ceiling of the garage
with the aid of a pulley. We recommend that you always clean the roof box and lubricate
the locks and hinges before you put it away. Ideally the roof box should not be
exposed to direct sunlight.
Looking after your roof box. Top
- Clear your roof box with clean water and possibly a little car shampoo.
- Never use a scourer or oil or solvent. Also avoid using cleaning agents that contain
alcohol, bleach or ammonia. These affect the composition of the plastic and cause
irreparable damage and/or discolouration.
- Lubricate the locks regularly with silicon spray or some other lubricant.
Mounting your roof box. Top
Naturally every Hapro roof box comes with a manual that tells you precisely how
to mount the roof box on the supports. However, here are a few helpful tips:
- Make sure that the roof box is placed centrally on the supports so that the weight
of the box is evenly divided.
- Make sure that you can still open the lid of the boot or the hatchback.
- The roof box should be parallel to the road surface so that you do not experience
any upward pressure while you are driving.
- The roof box should also be parallel to the sides of the car so that it has a minimum
impact on the roadholding.
All Probox and Hapro Carver roof boxes are designed to include the super-fast
Easy Fit attachment system developed by Hapro. With this system you
no longer have to drill holes in the roof box. Simply place the braces in the right
position, secure them in place with a flick of your wrist, and the roof box is securely
attached to the roof of your car. The
Easy Fit system can be used with virtually all universal supports.
If you have aluminium supports with a T-profile, ask your dealer about the special
attachment kit.
Roof racks. Top
The roof box should only be used in combination with internationally certified roof
racks. The roof box should not be mounted diagonally on the roof rack, nor should
it be mounted back to front.

Probox & Hapro Carver.
The bars of the roof rack can be up to 74 mm wide and 40 mm high. If the bars of
your roof rack are more than 40 mm high, you can purchase specially extended braces.
The distance between the bars of the roof rack should be at least 70 cm.

The bars of the roof rack can be up to 45 mm wide and 30 mm high. The distance between
the bars of the roof rack must be at least 70 cm.

Once you get there. Top
Once you arrive at your destination it may be a good idea to remove roof box. Then
you will have useful additional storage space for toys (etc.) next to the caravan
or the tent. Not only that, you will also save on fuel.
Lost your key? Top
Note the number of your key on the manual and/or keep a note of it with your car
papers. This number will speed up the process if you need to reorder a key.
Transporting goods safely. Top
Be sure to follow the assembly instructions when mounting your roof box. Contact
your dealer if any of the components are missing and refrain from using your roof
box until all of the components have been assembled in accordance with the instructions.
Always check that the lid is shut properly before you set off. Always make sure
that your roof box is secured in accordance with the assembly instructions
