This coming weekend Mondello Park will host the biggest drift event of the year. Global Warfare pitches 15 international Drift Allstars with cars and drivers imported from all over the world against the cream of the Irish Drift Championship. The Irish have an incredible 12 year undefeated streak on home turf with 46 different, world renowned challengers taking them on over the years, each one failing.
This year the challengers are even more determined than ever to topple the Irish. We were at the Global Warfare media day today and I can tell you they mean business. As you’ll see from the shots below the opposition have brought out the big guns with multiple 1000hp+ builds, brand new, showroom-fresh cars such as the 900hp BMW M2 for example and a new level of finance and professionalism especially from the likes of the Bud Mat team.
But you should never underestimate the Irish, what they might lack in budget or backing they more that make up for in raw driving talent and local knowledge. As one facebook commenter posted today..
Your gonna need your big boy pants on to beat us lads!
We were lucky enough to experience, first hand, some of that raw Irish talent today from the passenger seat of Adrian Walsh’s freshly rebuilt Toyota Corolla. The car is beautifully prepared, it’s got a Winters diff, full Haltech engine management….oh and a 600hp LS2 V8! This thing sounds incredible – Check it out!
